Neuenegg, September 16, 2025 – For 20 years, the spread Ovomaltine Crunchy Cream has delighted consumers in Switzerland and around the world. Now Ovomaltine is launching a new variant – Ovomaltine Crunchy Cream Less Sugar. Made in Switzerland and just as good as the original; but with 30% less sugar. The new spread is produced like its predecessor without palm oil and without artificial sweeteners.
A reduced sugar variant for the birthday
For the 20th birthday of Ovomaltine Crunchy Cream, the Ovomaltine team is launching a new variant with 30% reduced sugar content. This is Ovomaltine's response to the increasing demand for conscious nutrition. Especially families want to better control sugar consumption. «We observe that health awareness has significantly increased in the area of chocolate spread in recent years. That is why we now offer a choice: alongside the well-known and popular spread Ovomaltine Crunchy Cream, there is now also a reduced sugar variant – Ovomaltine Crunchy Cream Less Sugar. A product with less sugar and deliberately restrained sweetness; entirely in line with consumer needs. We have consciously avoided artificial sweeteners,» says Simon Schiess, Senior Brand Manager of Ovomaltine.
Made in Switzerland and without palm oil
The Ovomaltine spread has been produced for nine years in Neuenegg, at the headquarters of Wander AG. After more than two years of development, the Ovo team succeeded in replacing the palm oil in Ovomaltine Crunchy Cream with Swiss rapeseed oil; without compromising on quality. Naturally, the new reduced sugar spread is also free of palm oil. Ovomaltine Crunchy Cream Less Sugar has been available in food retail since this week.
About Ovomaltine
The Ovomaltine brand can look back on a 121-year history. It is one of the 20 most popular brands among the Swiss population and 99% of all Swiss people know it. What was originally invented in 1904 by a pharmacist as a restorative product for infants and the sick soon began a triumphant journey around the world. To this day, the Ovomaltine drink powder is based on the old magic formula of Dr. Albert Wander. This is contained in all Ovomaltine products from spread, muesli, bars to ice cream and more. Wander AG produces Ovomaltine for Switzerland and the European market in Neuenegg near Bern.
