About the job
Social Worker in Debt Counseling (60%)
The Counseling Department supports low-income families in psychosocial and financial matters and offers telephone short consultations, debt counseling, social counseling for families, as well as mobile social counseling.
We are looking for a social worker to join our debt counseling team starting February 1, 2026, or by arrangement.
Within the framework of debt counseling, you make an important contribution to supporting over-indebted private households and self-employed persons in the canton of Zurich. Your activities include:
- Counseling and support of families and individuals from the canton of Zurich in debt situations
- Counseling and support of self-employed persons from the canton of Zurich in debt situations
- Coaching of third parties, such as professionals, parish employees, relatives, employers on debt-specific issues
- Participation in the media and public relations work of Caritas Zurich, e.g., through expert contributions, case examples, or engagement at events
You enjoy advising and supporting over-indebted people to regain an overview in their challenging life situations. You approach complex contexts with curiosity and composure. Thanks to your structured analysis, you can identify and demonstrate possible courses of action. You see small steps as success and as a prerequisite for sustainable change.
In addition, you bring the following:
- Degree in Social Work
- Several years of counseling experience in social work
- Experience in debt counseling and debt restructuring is an advantage
- Strong understanding of legal contexts and issues
- Humor and joy in diversity as well as flexible work organization
Start of work: 01.02.2026 or by arrangement.
