As a Legacy Officer, you are part of the fundraising team, which belongs to the Communications & Fundraising department of Médecins Sans Frontières Switzerland and includes the three areas of Philanthropy, Grand Public Acquisition, and Grand Public Loyalty. You are responsible for strategic tasks, relationship management, and representing the organization to external stakeholders, donor relations, as well as the administrative management of files related to legacies and inheritances. In your role, you work with the Senior Legal Legacies Advisor and support this person in their tasks.
Responsibilities
Strategic tasks
Participates together with the Legacy Coordinator and the Head of Grand Public Loyalty in the development and implementation of the predefined strategy. Supports the implementation of the action plan to expand legacies and inheritances as a private funding source for Médecins Sans Frontières Switzerland.
Works closely with the Head of Grand Public Loyalty and the Legacy Coordinator to achieve the goals for income from legacies and inheritances and to implement the annual action plan.
Relationship management and representation of the organization to external stakeholders
Represents Médecins Sans Frontières in handling legacy and inheritance files without special complexity after prior consultation with the Legacy Coordinator.
Establishes and maintains relationships with predefined persons (potential legacy donors and legal experts) in consultation with the Legacy Coordinator.
Establishes and maintains good relationships with professional partners in the area of legacies and inheritances (especially executors and other third-party intermediaries).
Promotes the development of partnerships with target multipliers (notaries, lawyers, asset managers, etc.).
Donor Relations
Maintains relationships with testators and interested parties ("handraisers") and ensures sustainable engagement through targeted support using existing tools.
Visits handraisers or confirmed testators for relationship management and to answer legal questions as part of initial information.
Organizes and coordinates events in the area of legacies and inheritances.
Administrative tasks and support
Supports the legacies and inheritances team in handling legacy and inheritance files with low complexity.
Ensures close collaboration with our external legal advisors in contentious or complex cases.
Ensures the administrative management of legacies after the death of testators and ensures compliance with legal requirements and deadlines.
Takes responsibility for certain files on behalf of and/or under the supervision of the Head of Grand Public Loyalty.
Profile
Education
University degree or equivalent education
Knowledge of inheritance law is an advantage
Experience
Experience in a similar role or in an administrative role in marketing, communication, financial accounting, or law
Building and maintaining relationships
Ideally, professional experience with Médecins Sans Frontières or another NGO or international organization
Languages
Fluent in German and French, both spoken and written; very good English skills; Italian is an advantage
Professional skills

Very good IT user skills (Office programs, internet research, digital tools)
Knowledge of the Swiss legal and political system

Working conditions
Permanent contract, 80% (32 hours/week)
Workplace: Zurich
Ideal start date: ASAP
Monthly gross salary (80%): between CHF 5,824.- and CHF 6,707.- (salary according to experience and internal salary scale)
