About the job
Laboratory Manager (80 - 100%)
Direct Current and Low Frequency | High Frequency | Photonics, Time and Frequency | immediately or by arrangement
The Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology METAS is the reference institute for measurements and measuring instruments in Switzerland. To ensure that a liter is always a liter (e.g., when refueling), METAS performs calibrations, conformity assessments, and consulting for business, research, and administration. Measurement accuracy builds trust, especially at the societal and political levels, and is indispensable in many areas: road traffic, electricity billing, time transmission, environmental and health measurements, etc. At METAS, various disciplines come together and complement each other – and this has been the case since 1862.
Due to upcoming retirements, we are looking for three leaders for the laboratories of Direct Current and Low Frequency, High Frequency, and Photonics, Time and Frequency. You preferably bring in-depth technical expertise in one of these fields and take responsibility for the entire further development of one of these metrology laboratories.

- You identify R&D potentials, initiate new projects, and promote a culture in which employees take responsibility and contribute new ideas.
- As the central contact person for customers and partners, you accompany the introduction of new services and position the laboratory as a reliable, competent, and innovative partner.
- You represent the laboratory professionally externally and maintain and expand relationships with key industrial customers as well as leading research groups. You actively engage in national and international expert committees in the respective metrological fields.
Your profile
- You have a completed natural science or engineering university degree or an equivalent qualification with several years of professional and leadership experience in an industrial environment.
- You possess pronounced leadership skills, specifically promote employees, and create a work environment based on trust, clarity, and collaboration.
- You bring enthusiasm and solid knowledge in metrology and measurement technology.
- You have experience in change management and enjoy guiding teams through change processes and actively shaping further developments.

- You communicate confidently in one official language and have very good knowledge of a second official language, complemented by good English skills.
We offer a responsible leadership position with scope for design, in which you actively shape the future of a technical-scientific laboratory. You work at the interface between industry and research, with a team at the highest professional level and in a collegial environment with attractive working conditions.
