Job Description
The HUG have welcomed volunteers since 1997. Do you want to offer your time to accompany adult patients through your presence and listening? You have availability of two times two hours each week, between 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM. Join the HUG and become an accompanying volunteer. You can intervene at the Hospital as well as at external sites such as Bellerive, Loëx, Trois-Chêne, and at the Joli-Mont Clinic.
The duration of hospitalization at the hospital is often brief. Therefore, you should expect to meet a large number of patients during a short period. Some of them, however, have longer stays in the hospital, which will give you the opportunity to meet them several times.
In parallel to your presence with hospitalized individuals, you participate in a group supervision of 1.5 hours every 2 months, which offers you a space to speak and gives volunteers the opportunity to reflect on the different situations encountered in order to better understand what is happening in the patient-volunteer relationship. It also allows you to share your experiences and emotions with other volunteers. You will also follow a bi-monthly continuing education.
Qualifications
To become an accompanying volunteer at the HUG, you must be over 25 years old and commit for a minimum of one year.
Your professional activity must be compatible with your commitment as a volunteer and therefore must not exceed 80%.
You are in good health, both physically and mentally, and individuals who have experienced a bereavement within the last year will have their applications put on hold.
Before starting your activity as an accompanying volunteer, you will follow a training offered by the HUG. You will also benefit from supervisions and regular follow-up.
