Postdoctoral Researcher in Environmental Cancer Epidemiology
Workplace Bern, Mittelstrasse 43 - Bern region - Switzerland CategoryWe are seeking a motivated postdoctoral biostatistician/ epidemiologist to work on a large EU-funded Horizon Europe project investigating the impact of environmental exposures on cancer risks in children, adolescents, and young adults (AYAs). The project will combine epidemiological data from population- based cancer registries in nine European countries with large pan-European datasets on environmental exposures and socioeconomic position, while exploring novel approaches to causal inference. The successful candidate will join the Environmental and Spatial Epidemiology research group at the Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine (ISPM), University of Bern. We investigate how environmental exposures, including ionizing radiation, air pollution, and pesticides affect health, with a focus on cancer in young people. We also study spatial variation and time trends in cancer incidence.
The Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine (ISPM) at the University of Bern performs research in a range of disciplines relevant to public health ( www.ispm.unibe.ch') ). Groups cut across divisions, facilitating an interdisciplinary approach to research in the fields of clinical epidemiology, social and behavioral health, biostatistics, and international and environmental health. The ISPM is highly reputed for its expertise in health effects of environmental exposures, the spread of infectious diseases, and the health of vulnerable groups including children and the elderly.
Description
- Communicate with project partners and contribute to study protocols and statistical analysis plans
- Develop statistical code for harmonized data analyses across countries
- Coordinate site-specific analyses and combine results using meta-analytic methods
- Draft manuscripts for publication and present findings at international conferences
- Contribute actively to other projects within the research group
Requirements
- PhD in statistics, epidemiology, or a related discipline
- Experience in planning and conducting statistical analyses within epidemiological research, ideally in multi-partner projects
- Excellent coordination and organizational skills
- Strong programming skills in R
- Proven scientific writing skills and publication experience
- Excellent English skills; knowledge of German or French is an asset
