Successful festival with numerous visitors
The sun was shining and there was a celebration. 10 years of fire station and depot, the new tanker fire truck and the ceremonial command handover with the supporting program attracted many visitors last Saturday to the Oberwil-Lieli fire station. The new tanker fire truck drove in, accompanied by bell ringers and with the former commanders and the procurement group on board, onto the square. Mayor Ilias Läber officially opened the festival with his speech and welcomed everyone. After information about the depot and fire station, he handed over the floor to Adrian Bolzern for the blessing of the new tanker fire truck. Adrian Bolzern completed the blessing with a story, the well-known "Hallelujah," and a joke at the end.
Claudia Brändle from Tony Brändle AG thanked for the valued contract and the good cooperation. Fire Chief Christoph Oetiker and Department Head Gabriela Bader thanked the residents for approving the credit and for the professional and friendly cooperation with Claudia Brändle and her team. The Oberwil-Lieli men's choir accompanied this solemn act with their performances.
In the afternoon, tours of the fire station and depot followed, which met with lively interest. A highlight for young and old was the taxi ride with the new vehicle, as confirmed by the long queue at the boarding point. Also, the demonstration of the fire simulation system, the operation of the water hose, and the aerial rescue device of the Mutschellen fire department attracted great interest. The children enjoyed themselves in the bouncy castle, tried extinguishing fires, or tested the feeling of wearing breathing apparatus. An enjoyable, unexpected visit was made by the Pfäffikon SZ fire department, which was on a fire department trip and spontaneously made a detour to our festival.
Those who were hungry were catered for in the festival restaurant and enjoyed a cool drink in the warm sunshine. The festival was continuously well attended and the mood was excellent. At 4:00 p.m., the fire department promotions followed. Christian Küng has been involved in the Oberwil-Lieli fire department for many years and was appointed deputy commander. The previous fire chief Christoph Oetiker announced his resignation. The new commander as of January 1, 2025, is Marcel Imhof. He looks forward to the new challenge and the cooperation with the command, the team, and the municipal council. The Oberwil-Lieli municipal council thanks Marcel Imhof for his willingness to take on this responsibility and wishes him much success. This act was musically accompanied by the Oberwil-Lieli and Zufikon music societies.
It was a successful festival.
Anyone interested in serving in the fire department and who would like to contribute to the safety of the village is cordially invited to the information evening on October 15 at 7:00 p.m. in the Oberwil-Lieli fire station.
Many thanks to Bruno Häusermann for the great photos.
