The Department of Economics at the University of Bern is inviting applications for a vacant Doctoral Student position.
TasksSuccessful candidates will participate in the teaching and research activities of the Department’s Industrial and Organizational Economics Group, including Professors Benkert, Letina, and Möller. They are expected to complete their dissertation within four years.
Requirements
- You have completed a master’s degree with excellent grades in Economics o You have a strong background in applied or theoretical Microeconomics.
- You have an excellent command of English.
- You want to obtain a first insight into the career of an academic economist.

You will work in a dynamic, research-oriented environment with a human dimension, where one-to-one advising takes place regularly.
You will enrol as a PhD candidate in the Gerzensee programme for doctoral students or another doctoral programme in Switzerland. These programmes are designed to prepare students for both academic careers and impactful roles in public and private institutions. Recent placements include the University of San Diego, the University of Amsterdam, the University of Laval, the Swiss National Bank, and the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs, among others.
