The Maxillofacial and Oral Surgery Service provides care for patients with cranio-maxillofacial trauma referred to the HUG from either the cantonal territory or neighboring regions. It also cares for patients with maxillofacial dysmorphoses and complex craniofacial malformations (cleft lip, hemifacial microsomia, etc.), within the framework of oral surgery (rehabilitation with dental implants and pre-implant reconstructive surgery, complex dental extractions, treatment of jaw cysts, etc.), patients with temporomandibular joint disorders and chronic facial pain, obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS), as well as patients with tumors of the maxillofacial and ENT sphere. The Oral Surgery and Implantology Unit (dental medicine) consists of 11 dental offices and 2 intervention areas (procedures under local anesthesia only).
Job Description
The Maxillofacial and Oral Surgery Service allows you to practice your profession in a modern and technical environment. It offers you the opportunity to develop your technical skills by accessing continuing education and congresses specific to your field of expertise. The HUG supports you in developing your skills and provides state-of-the-art equipment.
This opportunity allows you to encounter diverse and complex situations, to progress in your profession as a dental hygienist, and to broaden your knowledge to other medical specialties. Your activity can be carried out alongside a private practice.
As the first contact for patients upon arrival, your ease in human relations and patient service accompanies them throughout their care within the unit. In addition to your technical skills, your empathy and listening abilities are strongly mobilized to reassure them.
You work in a multidisciplinary team composed of doctors, dentists, maxillofacial surgeons, dental assistants, and dental hygienists. In your role, you are autonomous in performing oral and stomatology examinations as well as scaling, polishing, curettage, gingival surfacing, and taking impressions for the fabrication of fluoride trays. You establish treatment plans with the dentist, patients, and provide preventive advice. You ensure dental follow-up for ENT and hospitalized patients throughout their hospital stay.
Your sense of service allows you to adequately support patients who may be ill or disabled and assist them with their mobility. You work autonomously in patient care while having a partner with whom you exchange practices and specific care approaches.
In parallel, you contribute to the training of future dentists by allowing them to observe practices alongside you.
To ensure the smooth running of the unit, you manage patient files and carry out billing according to current rates. Precision and rigor are required to succeed in these administrative activities.
Qualifications
Holder of a dental hygienist diploma or an equivalent title recognized in Switzerland, you have the cantonal practice right essential for the role. You have good knowledge of aseptic rules and medical device management measures (pre-disinfection, sterilization).
To succeed in this role, you rely on a successful initial experience as a dental hygienist.
You are comfortable with computer tools to schedule appointments, complete patient files, and perform billing. A perfect command of French to welcome and guide patients is required.
Your willingness to evolve the practice and your curiosity are assets for success in this position.
