The Sozialwerk Pfarrer Sieber Foundation (SWS) is committed to helping those in need based on the Gospel. With over 190 employees and 350 volunteers, it operates several facilities in the health and social sectors in Zurich and the surrounding area, offering assistance especially with homelessness, substance addiction, and other related health and social problems.
The Gassencafé Sunestube as the base of our outreach street work creates a protected place of compassion and community for people in need. It offers basic material support, professional care, pastoral help, and meals.
The outreach street work targets those whose main place of life is on the streets of Zurich and who are underserved in every respect. The goal is to build a relationship with them, support them, and, if possible, connect them to the support system.
A challenging task:
- You will work for a maximum of 2 years as a peer / expert by experience in street work or the Gassencafé Sunestube
- You support people in need with your experience in coping with a life of addiction, homelessness, and poverty
- Relationship work, conversation, and exchange of experience with people in challenging life situations
- You work closely with your trainer and the professional team
- You perform operational and administrative tasks and are supported to be able to do this independently
- You actively contribute your perspective in team meetings and case discussions
- You have the willingness to register for an external peer training within the 2 years and complete it in addition to the training position
A profile that convinces:
- You have significant experience in coping with addiction, homelessness, and their consequences
- You have been in a stable life situation for at least two years (no acute addiction or crisis, permanent residence, financial security)
- You have the physical and mental capacity to work two full days per week at early or late hours in an intense environment
- You are financially secured through disability insurance or social assistance
- You have an open and tolerant personality, can approach people well, listen, and be patient. Respecting the self-determination of clients regarding their lifestyle corresponds to your basic attitude
- You want to integrate into a team, are open to criticism and communicative, can accept assignments from superiors, and enjoy self-reflection and growing and developing
- You are not averse to regular computer work and are happy to learn more in this area
