Certified mediator for the mediation space
Attached to the General Management of the CHUV, the Mediation Space between patients, relatives and CHUV professionals is looking for a certified mediator at a 70% rate from March 1, 2026, or to be agreed upon.
Context
The Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV) is one of the 5 Swiss university hospitals. Thanks to its collaboration with the Faculty of Biology and Medicine of the University of Lausanne and EPFL, the CHUV plays a leading role in the fields of medical care, medical research, and education.
More than 52,000 patients are hospitalized each year at the CHUV. In the context of illness and care, at the heart of a complex hospital institution, misunderstandings can arise.
The relationship between caregivers and patients/relatives requires trust. When this is compromised, the mediation team gladly receives patients to discuss it. During a confidential interview, patients have dedicated time to talk about their situation, exchange with a mediator, obtain information, and clarify their expectations according to their needs.
These conflict management specialists also support all parties seeking to get out of difficult situations and to build alternatives in a spirit of cooperation. They create favorable conditions so that everyone can talk about what is wrong, resume dialogue, and, if possible, rebuild trust.
The objective is, on the one hand, to provide reflection material to the clinical services or units that request it. This data allows initiating or feeding concrete improvement projects based on the experience of patients, their relatives, and also health professionals.
The mediation team also collaborates with institutional actors around cross-cutting projects, delivers several teaching modules to medical students, nursing students, or as part of continuing education for health professionals. The collected stories also constitute useful material for research. The goal is twofold: to learn from lived experiences and to prevent conflict in the hospital.
Mission
- You welcome patients and their relatives, listen to their feedback on their care at CHUV
- You process their requests and follow up on their situations
- You collaborate with services to find solutions
- You conduct mediations between users and professionals
- You document the situations
- You analyze the collected data to contribute to quality improvement
- You report this information to the different levels of the Institution (General Management / Departments / Services)
- You participate in teaching and research projects
- You promote the activity of the Mediation Space between patients, relatives & professionals
Profile
- You hold a university degree or an equivalent qualification
- You have completed training and hold a diploma in mediation (GPM, Kurt Bosch University Institute, University of Fribourg, HETS HES-SO Geneva, University of Geneva, and other certified training provided by specialized associations or institutions) and conflict management
- You have experience in the hospital environment and/or a strong interest in the hospital
- You know and have an interest in research and data analysis
- You are an empathetic person, stress-resistant, with a keen sense of diplomacy.
Depending on the candidate's experience, the salary scale is between level 12 and 13.
