We’re looking for a hands-on, pragmatic Head of Engineering to lead our engineering team. You’ll own delivery across multiple products, set up and scale engineering practices, coach talented engineers, and work closely with Product, Marketing, and Leadership to bring great products to life.
You’ll be both a people leader and a technical driver - raising the bar on quality, architecture, and operational excellence, while building the structure that enables the team to move faster. You’ll also play a key role in hiring and scaling the engineering team.
Responsibilities
- Lead and scale a world-class engineering team across backend, frontend, mobile, and AI disciplines.
- Drive technical and security excellence, ensuring products are built for privacy, reliability, and compliance from the ground up.
- Own product delivery across multiple products ensuring we ship on time, securely, and with exceptional reliability.
- Establish and scale engineering best practices - testing, monitoring, documentation, CI/CD, operational reliability, and secure coding standards.
- Implement and champion security-by-design principles across all stages of development and deployment.
- Coach and grow engineers through 1:1s, leveling frameworks, and structured career development.
- Partner closely with Product and Marketing to shape roadmaps, align priorities, and communicate clearly across teams.
- Build lightweight processes and structures that bring clarity and accountability without slowing the team down.
- Hire and develop the engineering team over time, building a strong, scalable organization as we grow.
- Contribute to defining Alohi’s engineering and security culture as our team and product portfolio expand.
- At least 3 years of experience leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams (10+ engineers) across backend, frontend, or mobile.
- Proven technical background as a Senior or Staff-level engineer before moving into leadership with the ability to guide architecture, security, and code-quality discussions.
- Demonstrated success leading delivery for multiple teams or products.
- Hands-on experience implementing operational and security best practices - testing, monitoring, CI/CD, documentation, and vulnerability management.
- Track record of coaching engineers, driving growth and performance through structured career development.
- Experience partnering with Product and Marketing teams to align roadmaps and execution.
- Experience hiring engineers and growing teams in dynamic environments.
- Strong systems thinking - able to balance technical trade-offs, security, team velocity, and long-term scalability.
- Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Comfortable working in a fast-moving, multi-product environment.
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience as the first or early Head of Engineering in a startup or scale-up environment.
- Exposure to both web and mobile development cycles.
- Experience working on multi-product or platform architectures.
- Familiarity with data engineering or secure infrastructure practices.
- Experience operating in security- and compliance-conscious environments (e.g., ISO 27001, GDPR, SOC 2).
- A track record of growing future tech leads or senior ICs.
