The Department of Women, Children and Adolescents is tasked with providing quality care tailored to the needs of women at every stage of their lives and addressing the health issues faced by newborns, children, and adolescents from birth up to 18 years of age. For many years, the Department of Women, Children and Adolescents has continuously developed cutting-edge services and centers of expertise in several medical specialties.
The Neonatology and Pediatric Intensive Care Service cares for any newborn, infant, or child whose vital functions are threatened and who requires monitoring or therapeutic intervention related to intensive care medicine. The teams support patients and their families in these crisis situations to undertake everything necessary and possible to improve the quality of life and survival of children whose condition requires specialized monitoring or treatment.
Your mission will take place within the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of the HUG. This mixed unit of neonatology and pediatric intensive care consists of 7 intensive care beds and 5 intermediate care beds. The unit is a multidisciplinary intensive care unit (medical and surgical including cardiology surgery) with more than 600 admissions per year. There is significant activity in cardiac surgery and transplant surgery (Swiss liver transplant center) with exposure to patients with hepatocellular failure, as well as oncology patients within the framework of GMO and all medical pediatric intensive care patients (septic shock, bronchiolitis). There is also close collaboration with the Neonatology Unit. A strength of our service is the medical-nursing collaboration with a large number of nurses specialized in pediatric intensive care (certification requiring 2 additional years of training).
The unit is recognized for FMH intensive care medicine training (pediatric curriculum, Level Au). More information is available on the HUG website or on the Swiss Society of Intensive Care Medicine .
