Director of Nursing at CHUV
We are looking for our next Director of Nursing (80 to 100%).
As a member of the CHUV Executive Committee, you play a key role in steering, monitoring, and implementing our strategy and major projects, particularly in the field of care and its organization. As a bearer of an innovative vision, you assume an essential role in driving the evolution of care in relation to the needs of our healthcare system while ensuring efficiency. You contribute to clinical excellence in care and guarantee quality and safety for our patients, within an interprofessional approach.
Context
The University Hospital of Vaud (CHUV) is an internationally recognized institution known for its care, research, and training activities.

The Nursing Directorate (DSO) of CHUV is an essential component of institutional management, ensuring innovative development, coordination, and quality of care within all clinical departments of CHUV.
With more than 5,200 professionals, this Directorate includes, besides management, nursing and assistance staff, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, social workers, educators, spiritual companions, and volunteers.
Mission
- You assume hierarchical and strategic responsibility for the organization and functioning of health and social work professions within CHUV, ensuring their quality, efficiency, and availability
- You advise and assist the General Management in its ongoing responsibilities, particularly in the fields of care and social work, and actively contribute to institutional strategy
- You guarantee institutional coherence of organization and care practices across all CHUV departments
- You ensure representation and promotion of care and social work within the CHUV Executive Committee and with cantonal or national authorities
- You oversee skills development, continuing education, and applied research in nursing, therapeutic, and social fields
- You promote collaborative leadership based on responsibility, innovation, and recognition of professional skills
- You actively contribute to the development of interprofessional work and the quality of comprehensive care for patients and their relatives.
Profile
- You hold a Master’s degree in nursing sciences or an equivalent qualification
- You have advanced managerial training at DAS level
- Ideally, you hold a certificate as an expert in intensive care, anesthesia, or emergency care, or a DAS in a clinical specialty
- You have proven experience in strategic management of large-scale care teams within a major hospital center
- You have at least 10 years of clinical practice in the field of care
- You master management and analysis tools and have an excellent understanding of hospital and budgetary issues
- As a committed personality, you demonstrate strategic vision, strong leadership, influence, communication, and collaboration skills
- You are recognized for your rigor, integrity, ability to unite, and willingness to innovate in the service of patients, relatives, and teams
- You are able to express yourself in English and German
