Job Description
Turner & Townsend is looking for an experienced leader in project controls (Director – Project Controls) to strengthen our team. The ideal candidate has proven success in managing client projects as well as leading project controls teams. This person will be responsible for project controls services for key client accounts and support strategic initiatives within the company as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Define and implement the strategic direction of project controls, including cost management, risk management, and scheduling.
- Responsible for the approval process of project budgets.
- Lead risk workshops with the project team to identify risks, assess likelihood and impact, define actions and responsibilities.
- Lead coordination of project controls-related deliverables requiring cross-departmental contributions.
- Motivate the team through clear objectives and guidance.
- Support weekly team meetings for progress monitoring and performance improvement.
- Lead the preparation and publication of regular reports.
- Prepare documentation for project gateways and approval processes.
- Develop policies for project chartering and partnerships.
- Review the project master plan regarding sequencing, interface milestones, and critical path elements (created by others).
- Develop and recommend project budgets, cash flow, and financial plans.
- Lead the risk management process for the project.
- Develop the work plan that forms the Project Execution Plan (PEP).
- Review, evaluate, and submit project implementation plans for approval.
- Manage project estimation and lifecycle costs (Total Cost of Ownership), including methodology for contingencies and development of estimates over the project duration.
- Develop and approve strategies for change management and impact mitigation throughout the project lifecycle – including scope, cost, schedule, and cost reduction initiatives.
- Develop control mechanisms to ensure team performance against project baseline metrics.
- Develop protocols and policies for compliance, monitoring, and reporting of diversity requirements.
- Define metrics and bases for progress reports on projects and contracts. Reporting includes performance evaluation, forecasts, trends, issues, actions, progress, and overall status.
- Develop project protocols and policies for cost reduction initiatives. Review project-related costs.
Qualifications
- Degree in construction project management, cost management, quantity surveying, engineering, or a related construction field.
- An advanced degree (e.g., Master’s) in quantity surveying, cost management, construction project management, or engineering is advantageous.
- Experience in relevant project controls, ideally with portfolio management experience.
- Experience leading high-performing project controls teams in a consulting environment.
- Experience leading project controls teams in a regulated or business-critical environment.
- Strong soft skills and experience in client management are a must.
- Experience with cleanrooms is an advantage.
- Knowledge of various contract models and their respective benefits.
- Proven success in scheduling, cost control, estimation, and risk management.
- Demonstrated experience implementing and managing a project controls system, including financial and schedule control, for a large capital project.
- Experience setting and monitoring project baselines and performance indicators.
- Proficient with project management software (e.g., Primavera P6, Microsoft Project) and advanced skills in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting.
- Excellent analytical and solution-oriented skills with the ability to interpret complex project data and derive meaningful insights and recommendations.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements, industry standards, and compliance frameworks relevant to the project.
- Strong leadership qualities and the ability to motivate project teams and align them to common project controls goals.
- Excellent presentation, communication, organizational, and language skills in German and English.
