Job description:
The candidate will be hired on a two-year contract which may be renewed for two successive periods, respectively two years and one year. The maximum duration of the assistant position is five years. The first year constitutes a probationary period during which the employment relationship may be terminated with a three-month notice period for the end of a month.
Salary: class 08/04 to 08/12 at 100% from CHF 68,357.- to CHF 81,246.- gross annual, subject to a temporary freeze on progression by decision of the Council of State.

Job description
The Global Studies Institute (GSI) is an interfaculty center of the University of Geneva combining the tradition of regional and international studies and developments in global governance. It favors interdisciplinarity in the study of international and regional relations in order to better understand the new challenges of the contemporary world in their entirety.It is offering a position of assistant within the Bachelor in International Relations (BARI)
Field: economic and social history / global studies
Job description:
- Assist the professor responsible for a course within the BARI
- Be able to integrate into a department conducting historical and economic research on the dynamics and institutions of capitalism, favoring a global perspective, and conduct historical research covering the period from the beginning of the modern era to the early 21st century
- Adopt a variety of methodological approaches for the study of economic and social history
- Monitor and correct exams as well as follow up with students
- Participate in common GSI activities (conferences, workshops, etc.), particularly doctoral activities (seminars, workshops, study days)
- Demonstrate competence and interest in the targeted field as well as the willingness to write a doctoral thesis in global studies (economic and social history and another discipline) or in economic and social history
- Devote 50% of their time to writing their thesis
- Participate in national and international conferences
- Academic publications
Title and required skills
- Hold a Master’s degree recognized by the University of Geneva in history or economics, or an equivalent title
- Provide a record of research work (theses, seminar papers) in the field of economic and social history
- Possess solid knowledge in economic and social history
- Master scientific writing
- Ease in dealing with students (preferably with teaching experience) and ability to work in a team
- Mastery of English and French (oral and written skills)
