About the job
Director of Daycare Centers - 80% to 100%
- Part-time
- HUG contract type: Permanent
- Department: Human Resources Management
Company Description
With more than 13,000 employees representing 160 professions, the Geneva University Hospitals (HUG) are a nationally and internationally recognized institution. To learn more about our institution, take a few minutes to consult our 2025 retrospective by clicking here.
Within the Directorate of Shared Services, the Human Resources Management contributes to the implementation of the strategic orientations of the HUG. Its policy is notably based on consideration of the individual, work-life balance, health and safety at work, development of training, and promotion of internal mobility.
The HUG daycare centers are company daycares reserved for the children of the institution's employees, from the end of maternity leave to school entry.
The HUG daycare centers include two sites with gardens, one located on the Belle-Idée estate in Chêne-Bourg and the other near the Cantonal Hospital. A drop-in daycare primarily intended for patients in consultation or visiting the HUG complements the daycare system.
Job Description
Reporting to the deputy director of HRM, you autonomously ensure the management, administration, and coordination of the Geneva University Hospitals daycare centers (Magnolias, Kangaroos sites, and drop-in daycare). Two deputies and a secretary, whom you supervise and support in their roles, assist you in this mission.
You ensure the application and evolution of institutional procedures and the service's educational project across the three establishments, guaranteeing the physical, psychological, and social well-being of the children and their families.
With the support of the deputies and through your managerial stance, you mobilize teams, encourage skills development, and foster a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement among the daycare staff composed of nearly 50 employees. You also identify with the institution's values and embody them in your approach with teams, partners, and parents who are themselves HUG staff members.
In the interest of efficiency, you ensure optimal administrative and logistical management while respecting the regulatory framework and budget allocated by the HUG, and you provide regular activity reports.
As a proactive expert, you contribute to the policy of pedagogical care dedicated to early childhood and ensure monitoring in this field. You also collaborate with internal and external partners such as the youth health service, cantonal authorities, etc. You lead organizational or regulatory transformations and mobilize your teams to ensure adherence, compliance, and optimal implementation.
Agile and innovative, your activities will also involve participating in reflections on expanding childcare places for staff and developing new projects, notably related to improving working conditions.
Qualifications
You hold a diploma as a childcare educator ES issued by ESEDE or an equivalent diploma recognized by SASAJ. You have completed your training with a higher or university diploma in early education, psychopedagogy, public/community health, social work, or an equivalent qualification.
You have at least 3 years of professional experience as a director, or failing that, at least 5 years as a deputy director in an early childhood care structure, or equivalent experience in another socio-educational field. Mastery of the Geneva regulatory framework for early childhood care (staffing ratios, operating authorizations, SASAJ standards) is essential for this position.
Besides proven pedagogical skills and project management experience related to the field, you have developed strong management skills. You are a person with positive, enthusiastic, innovative leadership. Demonstrating open-mindedness, you know how to take a step back, question yourself, and support change with discernment. Your integrity, assertiveness, and emotional intelligence allow you to make decisions calmly and manage complex situations with mastery. Your client orientation and service spirit lead you to place the quality of care and family satisfaction at the heart of your priorities, thus giving full meaning to your actions.
