Job Purpose: The Head of Medical Sciences is a key leadership role within GARDP’s R&D division, responsible for both developing the Medical Sciences function and shaping and delivering the medical science strategy for an assigned disease area and portfolio. The role is responsible for ensuring the function develops and implements plans for the clinical development of new antibacterial treatments through to supporting optimal and appropriate access for patients. The position provides strategic and tactical medical leadership to R&D and Access activities ensuring that medical strategies, risk–benefit assessments, and safety systems are robust, compliant, and aligned with GARDP’s mission. The role reports to the Medical Director.
Key Areas of Responsibilities:
Medical Sciences Leadership
· Develop and manage a team of clinicians and scientists to be deployed to GARDP programmes including R&D and/or Access-Led projects to provide medical science leadership for core development strategies, clinical studies, patient related access development studies and related activities.
· Ensure regulatory and GCP- compliant, appropriate sponsor medical oversight is in place for all GARDP clinical studies from design, conduct and through to interpretation.
· Instill medical excellence in the conduct of clinical projects and studies directly, via GARDP medical team members or partner or vendor staff (including related to PV and patient safety).
· Provide direction to the Drug Safety and PV team for the development and implementation of the principles and process for proactive safety risk management and comprehensive reporting requirements relevant to the R&D and Access portfolio supporting the overall accountabilities of the medical director.
Medical Affairs & Access Development
· Bridge the gap between development and clinical practice (i.e patient access) by providing a framework for generating evidence, supporting appropriate exchange of scientific information and translation of product medical knowledge from drug development to appropriate and optimal use of GARDP treatments.
Sexually Transmitted Infections Disease Area/ Portfolio level Medical Lead
· Provide senior medical strategy and oversight at the STI disease-area and programme level to support the development and delivery of antibacterial treatments and other interventions
· Work with the programme and project lead to ensure the right medical scientific activities are in place to deliver the clinical aspects of target product profiles and drug development plans.
Qualifications and Attributes:
· MD or PharmD/Clinical Pharmacist with specialism or extensive clinical and research experience in infectious diseases or clinical microbiology.
· The ideal candidate should have significant experience (10 years plus) as a physician or clinical scientist in drug development (preferably antimicrobials) with a proven track record in leading medical or pharmacovigilance teams and/or project level medical activities including studies.
· Demonstrated leadership in functional, matrix, and collaborative environments
· Strong strategic, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
