With nearly 1,200 employees, the Department of Acute Medicine (DMA) includes anesthesiology, clinical pharmacology and toxicology, intensive care, and emergency services. It fulfills a fourfold mission through its services, which provide expertise in frequent interaction with all Geneva University Hospitals, thanks to a transversal platform, aiming to ensure the best possible patient care.
The Emergency Department is a transversal service tasked with welcoming patients 24/7 regardless of the nature of their health problem, ensuring rapid and effective care to direct them to the most appropriate structure. The Emergency Department also provides urgent medical assistance at the cantonal level, coordinates and manages major events, while serving as a reference service for the canton’s structures.
Job Description
You participate in the operational medical management of the Emergency Department in both intra- and extra-hospital areas (SMUR).
You join a collegial team to ensure, in close collaboration with your hierarchy, the management of a care unit and the coordination of the clinical activities entrusted to you. In this role, you are responsible, under supervision, for medical acts by balancing the workload and the capabilities of the team’s doctors. You timely communicate medical decisions and all necessary information to doctors, the nursing team, and relevant partners.
In your activity, you inform patients simply and their relatives within the limits of professional confidentiality.
You prepare and manage the medical record and work closely with the medical secretariat for its regular updating and closure. You record the services performed to generate billing.
You actively participate in the training and supervision of the department’s resident doctors, in development and research activities, as well as in the advancement of emergency medicine.
Qualifications
You hold a federal medical diploma or have training deemed equivalent by the Medical Professions Commission of the Federal Office of Public Health (MEBEKO).
Additionally, you ideally hold a specialty title in general internal medicine, surgery, or anesthesiology, or an equivalent title recognized by the FOPH (MEBEKO).
A specialty certificate or a university degree in emergency medicine acquired or in progress is an asset.
You have solid clinical experience in a university-type emergency service with a high volume of activity and a strong interest in acute medicine.
You are comfortable in communication, open-minded, a good listener, and have a synthetic mind. You are dynamic, flexible, enthusiastic, and demonstrate discretion and tenacity.
For non-French speakers, a certified C1 level in French is required.
Additional Information
Permanent service (24/7 and 365 days/year). You participate in the department and SMUR shifts and on-call duties.
