The Cantonal Tax Office is responsible for the enforcement of the provisions of federal, cantonal, and municipal taxes. It ensures the complete registration of all taxpayers, professional and customer-oriented tax assessment, and uniform tax collection.
The main department Natural Persons is responsible for the uniform assessment of income and wealth taxes and the examination of the refund of withholding tax for around 330,000 natural persons, as well as for the valuation of around 22,000 unlisted companies based in the canton of St. Gallen.
