Grid Studies Engineer (80-100%) - 1538 in Aarau or Prilly
Ensure electricity in Switzerland
In this varied and demanding position, you are responsible for creating models and conducting studies for the long-term development of the transmission grid.
- Creation of network models with all elements of the system "generation plants – lines/transformers – loads" to perform various types of analyses.
- Performing calculations for the long-term planning of the transmission grid (load flow calculations, security analyses, short circuits, dynamic RMS and EMT analyses).
- Conducting studies in collaboration with partners (transmission and distribution grid operators, producers).
- Analysis of grid connection requests to the transmission grid and dimensioning of the planned plants.
- Development of scripts to automate the processes used in various network planning studies.
- Representation of Swissgrid in national and international working groups in your field of expertise.
This is how you make a difference
We are looking for an independent, organized person with synthetic thinking and good presentation skills. In addition, you bring the following profile:
- Bachelor or Master in electrical engineering, ideally with a focus on power grids, or a comparable education.
- Very good knowledge in the field of power grid calculations (load flow, short circuit, dynamic analyses).
- Knowledge of the electricity market and market models.
- Experience with network simulation tools such as PSS/E, Neplan, and EMTP.
- Several years of experience in network studies within the energy industry are an advantage.
- Knowledge in script programming (e.g., with Python and Matlab).
- Very good German or French skills (at least one of the two languages) and good English skills.

About us
The Grid Development and Studies team (eight people) is responsible for studies on network development. We work with Swiss distribution network or power plant operators as well as with foreign TSOs. We are responsible for managing the network models and analyses for long-term planning. In doing so, we review grid connection requests to the transmission grid and carry out necessary studies to analyze the stability and dynamic behavior of the system with the planned projects.
