Our Migration & Integration Department of French-speaking Switzerland – a branch of Caritas Switzerland in Fribourg employing about one hundred collaborators – is responsible for the support and integration of recognized refugees in the canton of Fribourg. On behalf of the canton, we welcome newcomers in our home in Matran, help them find their own accommodation, grant personal and material assistance according to social welfare standards, and support them in steps towards professional and social integration. Additionally, we manage a community interpreting service active in several French-speaking cantons as well as a listening and counseling service against racism for the residents of the canton of Fribourg.
The Social Welfare Service – composed of 22 social workers managed by 2 team leaders and led by a service manager – has the mission of social assistance to refugees who are not financially independent. The teams follow them individually, establish budgets, and provide material and personal assistance in accordance with cantonal law and the principle of subsidiarity. They also support them in administrative procedures and assess their integration needs. The Service works closely with the Administration and Reception, Housing and Infrastructure, and Integration services.
Your tasks
- Support and advise recognized refugees in their integration process
- Ensure reception, listening, and social support of beneficiaries
- Establish monthly social assistance budgets (LASoc, CSIAS)
- Search for subsidiarity (social insurances, subsidies)
- Support in various administrative procedures of the Service and collaborate with other services/institutions (SpoMi, SSR, SEM, ORS, BCJ)
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team and network
- Active participation in service meetings and supervisions
- Prepare OFS statistics and enter data into computer systems
- Manage mixed files
- Home visits
Our requirements
- Training as a social worker or equivalent qualification
- Knowledge and experience with social assistance law (LASoc) is a plus
- Administrative and writing skills
- Good stress management and efficient time and task organization
- Comfortable using computer tools
- Sense of collaboration, negotiation, and teamwork
- Affinity for the asylum and refugee field
- Cross-cultural skills
- Balance between empathy and professional attitude
- Mastery of German, in addition to French, is desired
