A Gender and Protection Officer (100%)
Caritas Switzerland operates in 15 countries in the fields of development cooperation and humanitarian aid, with priorities including income generation, migration, and climate change. The programs are supported on site by national organizations and in Switzerland by program management.
For a new project in the field of migration, Caritas Switzerland is recruiting a Gender and Protection Officer. The main objective of this position is to promote Gender and Protection aspects in the implementation of activities related to the NARIMEY program, mainly targeting migrant workers, based on analyses, technical inputs, and assurance of principles related to these themes.
Your tasks
- Advise the project team during implementation on the consideration of Gender issues, inclusion, gender-based violence, and other protection aspects (other human rights, labor rights, and social protection) depending on the need
- Ensure that all project deliverables are highly aligned with Gender and Protection aspects
- Develop the community psychosocial approach (CPA) within the NARIMEY project and train/support partners in its implementation
- Ensure the consideration of an intersectional approach in the analysis of participants' needs and project execution
- Ensure respect for protection principles, rights-based approach, Do No Harm, Leave No One Behind (LNOB)
- Strengthen Gender and Protection capacities of teams through training, coaching sessions, and joint missions
- Specifically support teams in carrying out activities that include a specific Gender component: those concerning survivors of sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment, trafficking and mistreatment (identification, referral, care) or those concerning social protection mechanisms (including micro-insurance/mutual provident schemes among migrants)
- Provide technical support during baseline establishment for calls for proposals and any analysis (including Baseline, mid-term evaluation, and final report) specifically integrating gender and/or protection: preparation of tools, technical framing, report review, knowledge sharing on the Nigerian context, practical needs, strategic interests of women, men, and young migrants
- Strengthen and support partners in their complaint management and handling mechanisms involving Gender and/or Protection issues
- Manage and analyze data related to human rights violations of migrant workers.
- Develop or strengthen effective and close collaboration/partnerships with state actors, donors, and CSOs involved in addressing violence against migrants
- Ensure regular participation in various coordination frameworks of the Gender and Protection Cluster and provide, share the 5W matrix for greater visibility of our activities.
Our requirements
- Higher degree (Bachelor+4) in social sciences, international relations, economics, geography, or other relevant fields
- At least 5 years of professional experience in development cooperation and project management
- Proven knowledge and expertise on gender and protection issues; Proven experience in writing, reviewing, and analyzing narrative activity reports in development cooperation
- Experience in organizing training and coaching (an asset)
- Knowledge of the community psychosocial approach (CPA) (an asset)
- Technical and sectoral knowledge and expertise in projects related to fighting extreme poverty, cash transfers, income generation, and/or migration (an asset)
- Technical expertise in humanitarian projects (an asset)
- Experience supporting NGOs, civil society organizations, and/or economic interest groups
- Very good organizational skills and task prioritization
- Good adaptability, listening, negotiation, teamwork, and independent working skills
- Excellent knowledge of French (written and spoken), good knowledge of local languages (an asset)
- High flexibility and availability for regular field visits and good knowledge of the Dosso, Niamey, Tahoua, Tillabari regions (an asset).
The workplace is Niamey, Niger.
Start date: 15.09.2025 with a fixed term of one year
