Laboratory Scientist at the Clinical Pharmacology Service
To strengthen its diagnostic and research activities, the Clinical Pharmacology Service of the CHUV is looking for a scientist specialized in mass spectrometry to join the catecholamines and peptides laboratory, a nationally and internationally recognized center of expertise.
Context
The Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV) is one of the five Swiss university hospitals. Thanks to its collaboration with the Faculty of Biology and Medicine of the University of Lausanne and EPFL, it plays a leading role in medical care, medical research, and education.
The catecholamines and peptides laboratory is a specialized biochemical diagnostic unit attached to the Clinical Pharmacology Service of the CHUV. It includes a multidisciplinary team composed of biomedical analysis technicians, students (interns, master’s and PhD), and a laboratory head, and is equipped with three mass spectrometers.
The main activity of the laboratory is the diagnosis of neuroendocrine tumors (pheochromocytoma, neuroblastoma, carcinoid tumor), based on the plasma and urinary quantification of catecholamine and serotonin derivatives by HPLC-MS/MS mass spectrometry.
The laboratory is recognized as a Swiss and international center of expertise, both for its analytical skills and its academic research activities (catecholamine metabolism, validation of new assay methods, biomarker discovery). A major development focus concerns the quantification of peptide hormones for clinical purposes.
Mission
- You participate in clinical and/or diagnostic research areas and in the development of new analytical methods, notably for biomarker quantification
- You contribute to the management of scientific activities in your field of expertise
- You provide analytical support in diagnostic activities and manage the mass spectrometers
- You improve the efficiency of in-house methods and the quality of analytical results
- You contribute to the management and prevention of non-conformities
- You participate in quality management system management as well as infrastructure, equipment, and supply management
- You contribute to the training of collaborators and students.
Profile
- You hold a Master’s degree in sciences (chemistry, biology, pharmacy) or a chemical engineering diploma
- You have confirmed expertise in HPLC-MS/MS mass spectrometry in clinical chemistry
- You hold a PhD in biology, biochemistry, or pharmacy, which is an asset
- You are able to develop projects in the field of new biomarker quantification
- You master the principles of analytical method validation in a service laboratory
- You have experience in research and scientific project development
- You appreciate human contact and have an interest in teaching and knowledge transfer
