Job description
The Faculty of Social Sciences and its Department of Sociology are opening an application for a 70% assistant position.Terms of reference
- Writing a doctoral thesis in sociology on a topic related to the sociology of science and technology
- The topic will generally address the relationships between science, technology, and societies (including markets and governance)
- Issues related to the environment linked to digital technology will be favored, as well as the approach through controversies and conflicts related to innovation, expertise, and regulation in key sectors of the so-called 'double' transition.
- Taking charge of seminars and tutorials (directed work) at the bachelor and master levels in sociology (including general sociology courses and specialized courses, notably in the sociology of science and technology), supervising and grading exams as well as monitoring students. These activities may include support for master courses given in English
- Active participation in the collective life of the Department of Sociology and the Institute of Sociological Research, and participation in certain administrative tasks
Title and required skills
The candidate must hold a master's degree in sociology or social sciences and be able to demonstrate: -- Research work (theses, seminar papers) in the fields of sociology of science and technology (or more broadly Science and Technology Studies - STS)
- Skills in qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods
- Demonstrated methodological skills (theses, seminar papers)
- Proficiency in written and spoken French and English
- Ease in relations with students and ability to work in a team
- Ideally, experience of mobility during studies

- A copy of one to two representative research works, ideally the master's thesis (in French or English) or scientific articles
- An outline of two to three pages of a thesis project
- A letter of support from the thesis supervisor or a sociology course teacher

The duration of the engagement is a maximum of 5 years, with renewals every two years (2+2+1) funded by the Department of Public Instruction (DIP).The thesis topic must be officially submitted to the Faculty before the end of the first year.
