The Cantonal Tax Office is responsible for the implementation of the provisions of federal/cantonal and municipal taxes. It ensures a complete registration of all taxpayers, professional and customer-oriented tax assessment, and a uniform tax collection.
The main department for natural persons is responsible for the uniform assessment of income and wealth taxes and the examination of the refund of withholding tax for around 330,000 natural persons, as well as for the valuation of around 22,000 non-listed companies based in the canton of St. Gallen.
