HEKS employs around 600 permanent staff and pursues the vision of a just world in which the dignity of all people is respected, peace prevails, and natural livelihoods are preserved. Within the framework of the 2030 Agenda, HEKS works in the four thematic focuses "climate justice", "right to land and food", "flight and migration" as well as "inclusion". In addition, HEKS provides humanitarian aid for victims of natural disasters and armed conflicts. The goal is a transformation on social, economic, and political levels. HEKS contributes to improving the living conditions of people in Switzerland and worldwide, asserts their rights, and raises awareness and mobilizes society, politics, economy, and churches for this purpose. In 2023, HEKS reached around 16 million people with its work.
Intercultural Mediator, hourly wage
The HEKS office in Basel conducts various projects in which intercultural mediators are deployed.
The projects support participants in finding their way well in their respective life situations in the Basel region.
With the project MasKuMen's Garden we address men from different countries of origin. For more information: MasKu-Men's Garden | HEKS
Time commitment: during the gardening season 2-4 hours/week, possibly only monthly assignments from November to February
For the languages Dari and/or Pashtu, we are looking for someone to start as soon as possible
These are your main tasks:
- Conducting garden meetings with men in cooperation with the program staff
- Linguistic mediation during the meetings
- Providing information on selected topics (e.g., health promotion, education, role models)
- Contacting and maintaining contact with participants
- Networking with migrant organizations and associations
Ideally, you bring the following:
- Training as an intercultural mediator
- Oral and written German skills at level B2 or higher
- Interest in men's work topics
- Willingness to accompany men from your own cultural background on an equal footing
- Good networking with migrant organizations or associations – or motivation to build such a network
- Enjoyment in contact with people
- Independence, initiative, and flexibility
- Residence in the Basel region
