The Office for Nature and Environment (UNA) is a service of the Department of Education, Culture and Environmental Protection and includes the five sections nature and landscape, technical and corporate environmental protection, groundwater and urban waters, coordination of procedures as well as central services. Our employees maintain regular contacts with internal and external interest groups as well as with specialized services of the Confederation and other cantons.
In the role of head of office, they report directly to the director of the department. They take on a responsible role, providing effective services for natural resources, the population, and the economy together with a motivated team. They actively contribute and make their expertise available in an environment that supports collaboration, professionalism, and development.
For the 1st of January 2027 or by agreement, we are looking for a head of the Office for Nature and Environment.
- Overall responsibility for the organizational, personnel, and financial management of the office
- Strategic implementation of environmental law, water protection, nature and landscape protection
- Specialist advice to the government on fundamental environmental issues
- Quality management and service development
- Leadership and collaboration with section heads (approx. 50 employees)
- Representation of the UNA in technical bodies, commissions, and intercantonal networks
- University degree in natural sciences as well as solid specialist knowledge in the environmental field
- Experience in leadership, collaboration, and team development
- In-depth knowledge of environmental law as well as planning and authorization procedures
- Analytical, systemic, and solution-oriented working and thinking methods
- Strong communication skills, ability to network and maintain relationships with stakeholders
- Sensitivity to economic, social, and political contexts
- Good knowledge of several cantonal languages is an advantage
