Specialist Nurses in Organ and Tissue Donation (ISDOT)

As part of the organ and tissue donation activity within the CHUV and in connection with the Latin Organ Donation Program (PLDO), we are offering two positions for specialist nurses in Organ and Tissue Donation at an 80% activity rate, starting March 1, 2026, or as agreed.

Context

The University Hospital of Vaud (CHUV) is one of the 5 Swiss university hospitals. Thanks to its collaboration with the Faculty of Biology and Medicine of the University of Lausanne and EPFL, CHUV plays a leading role in medical care, medical research, and education.

The Latin Organ Donation Program (PLDO) is one of the five organ donation networks in Switzerland. It covers the area of the French-speaking cantons and includes 2 procurement and transplantation centers, 3 procurement hospitals, and 6 detection hospitals. Its main mission is to support partner hospitals in their legal obligations regarding organ and tissue donation. It provides general coordination and management responsible for training ISDOT (specialist nurses in organ and tissue donation): protocols, procedures, and educational materials for professional training.

The local organ and tissue donation coordination unit brings together specialized or expert professionals in adult or pediatric intensive care, anesthesia, and emergency care. On a daily basis, the ISDOT team works interactively and interprofessionally with various CHUV departments (intensive care, operating room, organ procurement and transplantation team). Within the hospital activity framework (CHUV and French-speaking procurement hospitals), our staff are called upon to support donor patients' families, offer coaching to their unit colleagues in the donation process, and coordinate activities related to organ and tissue donation. The conduct of these activities relies on the ability to work autonomously and real clinical leadership skills.

Within the PLDO framework, ISDOT are called upon to carry out educational and public awareness actions. They actively participate in institutional, regional, and national projects.

Mission

In accordance with the institution's specifications and respecting transplantation law:

• Organize and coordinate activities related to organ and tissue donation
• Ensure identification/care of the organ and tissue donor patient and their relatives
• Participate in training, information, and awareness activities related to organ and tissue donation
• Ensure quality control of the organ and tissue donation process
• Participate in research and development related to organ and tissue donation.

Profile

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (or equivalent title) with Red Cross recognition
• Specialist Nurse diploma in intensive care or equivalent title
• Minimum two years of professional experience in an acute care unit
• Organizational, analytical, and negotiation skills
• Dynamism, initiative, autonomy, and flexibility
• Relational and communication skills
• Good knowledge of basic computer tools and programs
• Proficiency in English and German is desired.
