The Diagnostic Department , composed of eight medical services, is tasked with providing diagnostics, therapeutic products, therapeutic procedures, and specialized clinical consultations of high medical quality, within the best timeframes and at an acceptable cost, to guide patient care and contribute to therapeutic decisions and actions.
The Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging Service has the primary mission of providing clinical diagnostic services using molecular imaging technologies, particularly those using radioactive sources administrable to patients. In addition to the services provided by other HUG departments, it uses radioisotopes for therapeutic purposes and for certain laboratory tests.
It offers scintigraphy exams, single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), or positron emission tomography (PET or "PET scan").
The service also develops new tracers and biomarkers applicable to molecular imaging and provides, through specific devices (X-rays, ultrasound), services for the diagnosis of osteoporosis and the evaluation of body composition.
