The water police operate under constant readiness to respond to rescue missions on all waters in the canton of Bern and are responsible for judicial police tasks on, in, and at the water as well as for water-specific prevention work. The water police are responsible for searching and recovering persons and objects and take on tasks related to blocking and binding driftwood, storm warning services, or in connection with fishery, hunting, and nature conservation controls as well as water pollution.
Your tasks
- Professional, organizational, and personnel management of the water police (a total of 19 employees, including 3 directly subordinate managers)
- Deployment to crime and/or incident sites, leading operations as overall incident commander, police incident commander, and water police incident commander
- Responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating, executing, and evaluating police and preventive actions and tasks or exercises in the area of water police; setting operational priorities
- Developing directives, training, and operational concepts for the department and ensuring their implementation and compliance
- Providing water police on-call services
Your profile
- Police officer with a federal specialist certificate and several years of leadership experience
- Knowledge of water police is desirable but not necessary
- An engaged, eager to learn, flexible, and innovative personality as well as a pronounced team player with a confident demeanor
- IT affinity and especially related skills in written communication
