Job Description
The Business Computing (FAP-BC) group, within the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN), is responsible for developing and maintaining a wide range of support applications essential for the operations of the organisation. We are currently seeking a UX/UI Designer to further develop our Design System enabling product teams to adhere to it and enhance the usability of our diverse portfolio of applications.
Your responsibilities
- Develop and maintain UI design patterns, components and style guides required by our product teams (for example in the context of the on-going projects to rebuild APT, Public Outreach or EDH) and integrate them in the Design System.
- Collaborate with UX colleagues to propose the governance model of the Design System to be approved by BC Management.
- Support the adoption of the Design System across product teams.
- Design wireframes, prototypes, and user interfaces for web-based and mobile applications.
- Implement user-centred design principles to create intuitive and visually appealing interfaces.
- Conduct user research, usability testing, and gather feedback to iterate and improve designs.
- Work closely with developers to implement designs and ensure design integrity throughout the development process.
Your profile
- Experience in designing end-to-end user interfaces, from early concepts to validated designs.
- Experience in collaborating with cross-functional teams (Product Managers, Developers, Business Analysts).
- Experience in applying user research or usability testing methods to validate design decisions.
- Experience in agile frameworks by incorporating early feedback from users, stakeholders and developers in design deliverables.
- Experience with documenting and presenting design work to stakeholders.
Skills
- UX/UI Design: ability to design intuitive and visually appealing user interfaces for a variety of web and mobile applications, using design tools such as Figma.
- Understanding of User-Centred Design Principles: knowledge of fundamental principles of user-centred design and iterative design methodology to address user needs and expectations.
- User Research: ability to conduct user research, gather relevant data on user needs and behaviours, and utilise this information to inform design decisions.
- Prototyping and Wireframing: proficiency in creating wireframes/ interactive prototypes to visualise and validate design concepts with stakeholders.
- User Testing and Feedback: ability to conduct usability testing and gather feedback to assess and improve designs iteratively.
- Spoken and written English, with a commitment to learn French.
Eligibility criteria:
- You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State .
- You have a professional background in Design, Graphic Design (or a related field) and have either:
- a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;
- or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.
- You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.

Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.
