Team
Wallee Group is a leader in delivering advanced payment solutions, focusing on providing robust, scalable, and secure systems across multiple domains. We are dedicated to enhancing customer experiences by offering innovative payment and finance systems that support businesses in growing efficiently. Our operations span across multiple countries, and we thrive on collaboration and agility, using frameworks like Scrum to organize teams. At Wallee, we aim to stay at the forefront of market trends, continuously innovating to provide the best services to our customers.
The Role
As Head of Risk, you will take ownership of building and leading Wallee’s Risk function across the group. You will be the key point for defining how we identify, assess, and manage risks across all areas, from payments and acquiring to issuing and regulatory compliance.
This is a hands-on, pragmatic role: we are looking for someone who can shape frameworks, challenge assumptions, and make risk management an enabler for growth - not a blocker. You’ll work closely with the CVO, Compliance, Product, and Operations teams to keep our business safe, scalable, and ready for the next phase of expansion.
Your Responsibilities
- Define and maintain a practical, business-oriented Risk Management Framework that fits a fast-moving payment environment.
- Monitor and report on the company’s overall risk exposure, ensuring alignment with our strategic goals and regulatory expectations.
- Identify, assess, and manage key risks across acquiring, issuing, transaction processing, and merchant activities.
- Oversee operational, financial, and partner risks, including relationships with acquirers, processors, and scheme partners.
- Collaborate closely with Compliance to ensure regulatory alignment in both Luxembourg and Switzerland.
- Build clear and actionable risk reporting for management, Board, and regulators.
- Use data to identify emerging risks, trends, and potential weaknesses in our operations or partner ecosystem.
- Drive continuous improvement in how risk is managed — embedding it into daily decision-making and product development.
- Lead, coach, and develop a small but highly capable Risk team, promoting ownership and accountability.
- Support internal and external audits, ensuring that our controls and documentation stand up to scrutiny without unnecessary bureaucracy.
What we are looking for
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience experience in risk management within the financial, fintech, or payments sectors is required.
- Strong understanding of risk types relevant to a payment provider: transaction, fraud, operational, partner, and liquidity risk.
- Familiarity with regulatory environments such as CSSF (Luxembourg) and/or FINMA (Switzerland), as well as card scheme expectations (Visa, Mastercard).
- Proven ability to build or scale a risk function — you’ve done it before or contributed significantly to it.
- Analytical mindset with a data-driven approach; you’re comfortable turning complex data into actionable insights.
- Excellent communication skills — able to work cross-functionally and make risk topics accessible to non-specialists.
- Pragmatic, proactive, and collaborative: you see risk as a business partner, not a control tower.
- Hands-on mentality with a strong sense of ownership and curiosity to learn new things.
- Fluent in English and German.
- Willingness to travel occasionally between Luxembourg, Switzerland, and partner sites.
What We Offer
- A key leadership role in a fast-growing international company shaping the future of payments.
- Freedom to build and lead your function your way with direct access to decision-makers.
- A lean, dynamic environment with short communication lines and no corporate politics.
- Competitive compensation and benefits package.
- Hybrid work setup and flexible working hours.
- Opportunities to grow professionally and personally in a high-impact, cross-functional environment.
In Short
We’re not looking for a “corporate risk manager.”
We’re looking for someone who understands that in fintech, risk and growth go hand in hand, someone who can combine structure with speed, insight with action, and integrity with ambition.
