Shape your future at the Building Department.
Geoinformation moves Zurich. It is part of every planning, every construction project, and every decision with foresight. We ensure that this information reaches exactly where it is needed – for example via geo.zh.ch. We make geodata visible, understandable, and effective. As a GIS Infrastructure Specialist, you will take on a central role in the GIS unit at the Office for Spatial Development. Starting January 2026, you can expect a dedicated team of 20 people and the full range of geoinformation topics in the canton of Zurich.

For your future task – operation and further development of the system landscape of the cantonal GIS – you need solid knowledge in the administration of servers, networks, and databases, as well as experience with geodata and GNU/Linux. An interest in geoinformation and spatial issues rounds off your profile. You have an academic degree in computer science, geoinformatics, training as a system engineer (IT), or a comparable education.
Experience with Python, PowerShell, GitLab CI/CD, ArcGIS Enterprise, Docker, Kubernetes, Microsoft Azure, monitoring tools, and IT security, as well as knowledge of PostgreSQL/PostGIS, is an advantage. A structured, solution-oriented way of working and a strong interest in taking responsibility are also desirable.
Do you want to leave a mark? If you commit yourself together with us at the Building Department, you will shape the face of the canton of Zurich. We offer you an exciting environment – just 2 minutes from the main train station.
Juan Romero Abelleira is co-head of the GIS unit and may be your future supervisor. He is available for your specific questions: juan.romero@bd.zh.ch. We look forward to your online application. Your new environment: www.zh.ch/gis, more jobs: www.zh.ch/jobs.
