The position is limited to 2 to 2.5 years
A postdoc position is offered in the Department of Personality, Differential Psychology and Diagnostics (PDD) starting April 1, 2026, or by arrangement.
The Emotional Competence in Analog and Digital Environments (ECADE) Lab offers a postdoctoral position within the SNSF project "Proximal and distal effects of emotion recognition training in typically developing adults" led by PD Dr. Katja Schlegel. The project investigates the effects of training to recognize nonverbally expressed emotions (e.g., using the TERA training program according to Schlegel et al., 2017) on social attention, emotional reactivity, and effectiveness in interpersonal interactions.
Tasks
The postdoc position primarily focuses on the question of whether and how training in emotion recognition ability changes visual social attention (among others measured by eye-tracking) and emotional reactivity. In addition, supporting teaching and academic activities of the lab and department, such as supervising bachelor’s and master’s theses, is part of the role. The position also offers space to further develop an independent research agenda within the overarching themes of the lab.
Requirements
- Research interest in individual differences and the trainability of emotional competencies and/or socio-emotional attention
- PhD in psychology or a related field, completed within the last 5 years
- Experience in eye-tracking research and methodology
- Very good statistical knowledge as well as experience in programming online and offline applications (e.g., experiments, surveys) and using statistical software (e.g., R, SPSS)
- Very good oral and written English skills; good German skills are an advantage
We offer
- Opportunity to work in an attractive, dynamic environment with modern infrastructure
- Room to develop own research and teaching projects
- A friendly and cooperative team
- Compensation according to the guidelines of the University of Bern and the SNSF
