Job Description
Purpose of the position / Reason for the position:
The laboratory technician will be responsible for independently performing complex synthesis tests, setting up simple analytical methods under the supervision of the chemist or analytical laboratory technician. Managing simple projects as well as supervising apprentices or interns will also be an integral part of the role.
Responsibilities
- Perform complex synthesis tests (and routine analyses) according to given objectives. Interpret test results and propose conclusions and/or further tests to be carried out.
- Develop/optimize laboratory procedures.
- Manage procedures and know the analytical methods related to existing processes.
- Support production processes, process development, and new synthesis routes.
- Master and use several specific devices according to laboratory organization. Take responsibility for the proper functioning and service of these devices.
- Ensure knowledge of HSEQ risks and comply with HSEQ rules related to the activity.
- Perform work efficiently, using equipment appropriately.
- Ensure that all experiment results, laboratory notebooks, and test reports are structured, well written, and up to date.
- Identify changes/improvements to laboratory procedures.
- Ensure the organization of the workspace (fume hood, laboratory tables, desk) is clean and safe.
Qualifications
- Laboratory technician apprenticeship with CFC (or equivalent) and a minimum of 3 years of experience.
- In-depth knowledge of several types of reactions, laboratory techniques, and purification.
- Mastery of safe and efficient handling of used equipment.
- Good report writing skills.
- Proficiency with computer systems used in the laboratory.
- Fluent French and knowledge of English is an asset.
