Grid Studies Engineer (80-100%) - 1538 in Prilly or Aarau
Participate in the electricity supply in Switzerland
In this varied and demanding position, you are responsible for creating models and conducting studies for the long-term development of the transmission grid. Your tasks include the following:
• Establishing network models including all elements of the "power plants - lines/transformers - loads" chain for performing different types of analyses
• Performing calculations for the long-term planning of the transmission grid (load flow calculations, security analyses, short circuits, RMS and EMT dynamic analyses)
• Conducting studies in collaboration with various partners (transmission and distribution grid operators, producers)
• Analyzing connection requests to the transmission grid and dimensioning planned installations
• Developing automation scripts for processes used in various grid planning studies
• Representing Swissgrid in national and international working groups in your area of expertise
This is how you make a difference
We are looking for an independent, organized person with a synthetic mind and good presentation skills. In addition, you have the following profile:
• Bachelor or master’s degree in electrical engineering, ideally with a specialization in electrical networks, or equivalent training.
• Very good knowledge in the field of electrical network calculations (load flow, short circuit, dynamic analyses).
• Knowledge of the electricity market and market models
• Experience using network simulation tools such as PSS/E, Neplan, and EMTP
• Several years of experience in network studies within the energy sector is an advantage
• Knowledge of script programming (e.g., with Python and Matlab)
• Very good knowledge of German or French (at least one of the two languages) and good knowledge of English

About us
The Grid Development and Studies group (eight people) is responsible for studies for grid development. We work with distribution grid or power plant operators in Switzerland as well as with foreign TSOs. We are responsible for managing network models and analyses for long-term planning. In doing so, we evaluate connection requests to the transmission grid and carry out the necessary studies to analyze system stability and dynamic behavior with planned projects.
