Operations Engineer Intern (80-100%)
Contribute to electricity supply in Switzerland
As an Operations Engineer Intern, you help lay the foundations for the safe operation of the transmission network. You participate in the development of concepts and the implementation of a database to develop new tools to support the continuous operation of the transmission network. To this end, you gain an overview of the system operation monitoring data and develop, in collaboration with the Data Owners and your colleagues, a concept for the integration, labeling, and maintenance of this data. In addition, your tasks include the following:
- Familiarization with the operation and processes of the transmission network operation
- Assistance in analyzing significant events in the operation of the transmission network, as well as preparing corresponding reports and developing improvement measures
- Collaboration on development or process redesign projects (e.g., with new types of installations in and on the transmission network) and/or IT systems used in real-time in the operation of the transmission network
- Evaluation and presentation of data within periodic reports on the operation of the transmission network or specific issues using Python, SQL, FME, and Tableau
- Independent execution of small analysis projects (e.g., network simulations in PSS/E), development of action recommendations, and presentation of results
Here is how to make a difference
For this versatile internship, you are able to quickly and independently familiarize yourself with new topics, apply theoretical knowledge, and understand broader contexts. You have a communicative, precise, and analytical personality. In addition, you bring the following:
- University or university of applied sciences degree in electrical engineering or related technical sciences
- Interest in the operation of the Swiss transmission network
- Talent for data and interest in data models and the development of data-based tools
- Basic programming knowledge for data analysis (Python, R, or similar), ideally some initial experience with DataBricks
- Experience with network simulation software (PSS/E or similar) is a plus
- Very good knowledge of Microsoft Office (especially Excel)
- Very good knowledge of German or French and very good knowledge of English
What can convince you
- Comprehensive overview of the different aspects of the operation of the Swiss transmission network: network control center and network operation, network installations and asset management, energy market and system services
- Varied and exciting tasks in a unique company in Switzerland
- Flexible working hours organization (42 hours per week) within a motivated team
- 25 to 30 working days of vacation as well as the annual company closure between Christmas and New Year's Day
- A state-of-the-art working environment, in immediate proximity to Aarau or Prilly-Malley train stations
