Job Description
Under the supervision of the dietitian team leader of the medicine department, you ensure the care of obese patients before and after bariatric surgery. You guarantee nutritional care in accordance with SMOB criteria. Preoperatively, a personalized assessment of nutritional health status is conducted during a dietetic consultation including analysis of eating habits, screening for eating disorders, and information on expected postoperative changes. Indirect calorimetry and body composition measurements are also performed.
Postoperatively, follow-up includes qualitative and quantitative nutritional evaluation at regular intervals, including six consultations during the first year, then follow-up up to five years, with particular attention to preventing vitamin, protein, and mineral deficiencies. Regular indirect calorimetry and body composition measurements are also performed.
You also monitor patients who are candidates for bariatric surgery referred to the HUG from the start of their care, thus contributing to the harmonization of practices while respecting expert society recommendations. You work closely with the multidisciplinary team specialized in therapeutic education and bariatric surgery, responsible for evaluation, surgical treatment, and postoperative and long-term follow-up of patients who have undergone a bypass.
You actively participate in various clinical and functional conferences. You may also be required to replace colleagues in other acute care units when necessary. Finally, you contribute to the training of students and health professionals.
Qualifications
You hold a basic training as a certified dietitian HES or equivalent and are proficient with computer tools. Ideally, you have a good command of English, which is an asset. You also master indirect calorimetry (IC) measurements as well as body composition measurements by bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA). Training in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) is highly recommended.
You have experience in clinical nutrition in acute care and ideally experience in managing adult patients undergoing bariatric surgery. You have a strong interest in caring for hospitalized patients in an acute setting.
You possess good teamwork skills, the ability to argue and negotiate. You also have strong communication skills and can quickly integrate into a new environment. You demonstrate a reflective attitude, intellectual and professional curiosity, as well as autonomy in time management and organization of your work.
