About the job
Co-Management Custody 80 - 100%Correctional Services and Reintegration (JuWe) is part of the Directorate of Justice and the Interior of the Canton of Zurich and employs around 1,400 people with diverse professional profiles. JuWe is responsible for criminal and measure enforcement as well as the implementation of various types of detention. For JuWe employees, the successful social reintegration of offenders and the prevention of recidivism are of particular importance.
The main department of remand prisons Zurich (UGZ) - one of seven main departments of JuWe - currently operates seven prisons for remand and security detention. One of these facilities is the Winterthur Prison (GFW), which manages its tasks with a staff of around 49 employees and offers space for 92 inmates and 9 places for provisional detention.
For the custody area of the GFW, we are looking for a committed and development-oriented co-manager with a modern leadership approach.
This is your field of activity
- In this co-management role, you are responsible for the personnel, professional, and organizational management of the custody area with around 22 employees
- You ensure a legally compliant, humane, and orderly penal system, including compliance with detention forms and the exercise of the duty of care towards inmates
- You are the central contact person for the concerns of the detainees and take on administrative tasks to optimize processes and ensure appropriate employment offers
- You ensure compliance with disciplinary regulations, coordinate actions in emergency situations, are responsible for reporting, and actively participate in disciplinary matters
- You work closely with the interprofessional care team (supervision/care, work operation, medical and psychiatric service, social service, administration) to solve complex cases and support sustainable decisions in the sense of development-oriented remand detention
- You are responsible for the professional training and further education of the team, actively participate in the training of new employees, and support projects as well as strategic tasks of the management
- Willingness to perform on-call duties (night, holidays, and weekends)
Your profile
- A federal certificate of competence or an equivalent qualification as well as further training as a specialist in correctional services
- At least 5 years of professional experience, including 3 years in correctional services or a comparable field
- Further training in personnel management is required; initial leadership experience is an advantage
- Very good German skills and knowledge of at least one foreign language in good oral application as well as confident handling of MS Office, radio systems, and control center systems
- High resilience, flexibility, and willingness to work shifts, nights, and weekends as well as the ability to act resiliently and calmly in a demanding environment
- Attitude and view of humanity as well as willingness to shape development-oriented remand detention
