The Statistics Office is responsible for the collection, procurement, processing, and dissemination of statistical data and information concerning the canton of St. Gallen and related matters. A total of 14 employees are employed. The office is located in the General Secretariat of the Department of Economic Affairs.

As reinforcement for the Data team in the Statistics Office, we are looking for a

Data Scientist for Social Affairs and Health (m/f/d)

Starting date: March 1, 2026, or by arrangement

Workload: 70-80%

Workplace: St. Gallen

What to expect

• Preparing, analyzing, and publishing statistics on the economic situation of private households and simulations within the framework of individual premium reductions
• Collecting and analyzing statistics on inpatient health care
• Co-designing the new data focus of the office (DWH, Linked Open Data, data catalog)
• Advising and supporting external stakeholders on statistical questions and data management issues

What distinguishes you

• Master's degree (preferably doctorate)
• Experience in the field of data science with a special focus on statistical analyses and modeling, preferably in social affairs and health
• Preferably experience in building and managing databases
• Experience in leading complex projects, including consulting and knowledge transfer
• Good knowledge of high-level programming languages (especially R), experience with version control tools is an advantage (git/gitea)
• Independent handling of complex analytical and conceptually demanding tasks
