Your responsibilities

Are you interested in connecting CERN's scientific research with industrial opportunities? Would you be passionate about fostering the application of CERN's know-how to societal applications?

Take part and contribute to promoting innovation, collaboration and technology transfer in alignment with CERN's research and expertise. You will join the Knowledge Transfer (KT) Group, which is in charge of identifying and realizing opportunities for CERN's know-how to be applied in fields other than particle physics. We aim to maximize the impact of CERN technologies and expertise on society, in particular through industry. Within the Business Development & Entrepreneurship Section, you will initiate and manage technology partnerships with industrial and, in some cases, non-commercial entities.

As Knowledge Transfer Officer in the Business Development & Entrepreneurship Section you will:

  • Scout CERN Departments to identify know-how and technologies, assess their potential societal impact, and propose the most appropriate dissemination strategies;
  • Promote CERN's technologies to external partners from both Member and Associate Member States, as well as beyond;
  • Contribute to the development of new communication and marketing initiatives (such as promotional events, interdisciplinary workshops, etc.) and value propositions;
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders, including industry, academia and CERN spin-off companies, leading to technical and contractual relationships;
  • Structure, negotiate and follow up knowledge transfer agreements (collaborative R&D, licences, etc.)
  • Support account management and project management activities of KT projects, and related administrative tasks; Affinity or basic knowledge in one or more of the following fields is desirable: - Microelectronics and/or detectors - Product development - Innovation and project management - Market analysis This role is intended, among other things, to support the Medipix collaborations and its activities.

Your profile

Skills and/or knowledge

Required experience in the following:

  • Technical education or affinity with CERN's technology domains;
  • Experience with Innovation management;
  • Experience managing projects with many stakeholders internally and externally;

Desirable experience in the following:

  • Experience working in scientific institutes;
  • Experience or familiarity with microelectronics and/or detector market; 
  • Experience with business development and creation of industrial partnerships in high tech environments;
  • Market analysis;

Required technical competencies:

  • Intellectual Property Management;
  • Knowledge and technology promotion, marketing and commercialization
  • Knowledge transfer processes and tools;
  • Managing industry partnerships;

Behavioural competencies:

  • Communicating effectively;
  • Demonstrating flexibility;
  • Managing self;
  • Working in teams.

Eligibility criteria:

  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • You have a professional background in Master's degree in technical field (or a related field) and have either:
    • a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;
    • or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.

Contract duration: 12 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.

  • A monthly stipend ranging between 6212 and 6828 Swiss Francs per month (net of tax).
