At Home in the BBJ Class

The Boeing Business Jet sits at the top of the business-aviation cabin — a Boeing 737 turned private aircraft, with the floor space of an airliner and the finish of a private jet. A cabin on this scale is exactly the kind of environment AeroVisto is built for: large in volume, exacting in detail, and uncompromising in the standard it demands.

What made this project stand out was its breadth. Operated by Action Aviation for worldwide charter, the aircraft had matured in service and was ready for renewal. At Nomad Technics in Basel, it underwent one of the maintenance organization’s most extensive single-visit BBJ projects to date — a heavy-maintenance check alongside cabin and connectivity upgrades. While Nomad Technics handled the cabin’s de- and re-assembly, AeroVisto, as the interior partner, delivered an extensive upholstery refurbishment at its workshops in Schnaittach, Germany. The aircraft’s distinctive amber burl-wood architecture was preserved, while AeroVisto reworked everything around it. The remit covered the complete soft interior — every seat, every divan and the bed — together with new NTF flooring, re-webbed seatbelts and full certification.

The Design Direction

The cabin design was created by Warja Borges of UNIQUE AIRCRAFT and developed with the operator. Its language is restrained and timeless: a soft cream leather as the main surface, lifted by a single rich-blue accent, set against the aircraft’s warm burl wood and a deep-blue carpet. The intent throughout was quiet, enduring luxury — a scheme that carries the same calm elegance from the entrance to the bedroom.

Bringing the Design to Life

Translating that direction into a flying cabin was the heart of the project, and the work was carried out in AeroVisto’s upholstery shop in Schnaittach. Every cabin seat, every divan and the bed were rebuilt by hand, from the sample seat through to the full production set.

The defining element is the rich-blue piping. Carried as a contrasting leather along the tight radii of each seat — and echoed on armrest tops, divan bases, seatbelts and the lower bedframe — it is the single line that ties the whole cabin together, and it is among the most demanding details to execute cleanly in aircraft upholstery. Across the main lounge, the dining area and the office, the seat centers carry diamond stitching and the seams a contrasting blue, all of which had to stay perfectly consistent from the first seat to the last. That kind of evenness only holds when the entire cabin is produced and finished by a single team, working to one specification.

The same care runs through the smaller details: the gold-toned control panels set flush into the seat backs, the leather-trimmed seatbelt finishes, the credenza covers and the leather-wrapped lower bedframe. On the lounge and office divans, woven fabric inlays add a soft, textured contrast against the smooth hides. Every material was chosen as much for the cabin as for the look: full-grain leathers selected for their depth of color and durability under daily charter use, and woven fabrics that bring texture while meeting the fire, wear and weight requirements of an aircraft interior.

One Project, Several Teams

A BBJ refurbishment is never the work of a single team. The aircraft was at Nomad Technics in Basel, the operator and design direction came out of Dubai, and the interior was produced in Germany. Keeping that flow moving — components, approvals and schedule across several locations — was part of the job from the first day.

The coordination was closest around the seats. Nomad Technics ran a thorough quality process, with the design reviewed from the first sample seat through to the finished set, and AeroVisto worked hand in hand with that process at every stage. That shared attention to detail is exactly what a cabin at this level calls for, and it shows in the consistency of the finished result.

More Than Upholstery

The scope reached well beyond reupholstery into a complete, certified interior package. Alongside the seating, divans and bed, AeroVisto laid new non-textile flooring in the entrance, galley, crew compartment and forward lavatory, and re-webbed the seatbelts on the 16G seats, with the webbing matched to the cabin design. The deep-blue carpet completes the cabin’s color story, its soft curving lines picked out in gold drawing the eye down the aisle. Crafted by Simrick AG to the design and matched to the surrounding materials, it ties the floor into the wider scheme. Installation was carried out by Nomad Technics.

Crucially, the work was delivered with full certification under EASA Form 1 — including the in-house production and certification of the seat foams. AeroVisto teams were also on site to support the trim, finish and flooring installation as the cabin came together at Nomad Technics. Design realization, production, flooring, safety-relevant rework and certification under one roof is what turns a set of individual workscopes into a single, coherent interior.

The Finished Cabin

The completed interior is bright, refined and quietly confident. Cream leather, rich-blue detailing, warm burl wood and a deep-blue carpet come together into a coherent VIP cabin that holds up in a wide view down the aisle and in a close look at a single stitched seam. The bedroom reads like a hotel suite; the lounge and dining area feel open and current; and the renewed flooring and belts bring the aircraft back to a fully airworthy, present-day standard.

Same architecture, an entirely new feel — and a cabin that the operator and the maintenance organization are proud to show.

Nomad Technics, which managed the overall input, has described the project as one of its most significant BBJ undertakings — and noted that a refurbishment of this complexity was delivered on schedule and on budget. For AeroVisto, it was a privilege to contribute its craft to a result everyone involved — operator, maintenance organization and AeroVisto alike — can be proud of.
