Our 114,000 colleagues serve people in more than 160 countries.Abbott Established Pharmaceutical Division (EPD) is looking for aSenior Data Engineerfor its global Pharma Division Headquarter based in Allschwil- Basel.Primary Job Function:The AA team is on a mission to reshape the entire EPD division around data-driven decision-making. The Senior Data Engineer collaborates closely with our Data Science team and our product delivery team to make sure that the innovative applications we deploy are built on robust data infrastructures and are fed with quality data. These solutions directly transform the way we produce market and sell our products around the world.This role focuses on designing a cloud architecture that carefully balance cost and performance, while creating reusable solutions that load and publish quality data across many of the different data sources we use in the division.Core Job Responsibilities:<ul><li>Data Pipeline and Integration Development:<ul><li>Build, maintain, and optimize end-to-end data pipelines that acquire, ingest, and process data from multiple sources into data lakes and enterprise data warehouses.</li><li>Implement monitoring and alerting systems as well as testing frameworks ensuring observability and quality of the data published.</li></ul></li></ul><ul><li>Data Architecture & Cloud Environments:<ul><li>Design and manage data environments in the Cloud with an emphasis in AWS with a strong focus on reusability, performance, data quality and security.</li><li>Plan project specific data engineering architecture in collaboration with affiliates across manufacturing sites and development partners and set the standard of quality of solutions owned by the team.</li><li>Implement DevOps best practices (e.g., CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, containerization) to automate deployment, testing, and monitoring of data pipelines and infrastructure.</li></ul></li></ul><ul><li>Collaboration and Best Practices:<ul><li>Work closely with data scientists, engineers, analysts and IT to drive our mission to empower data-driven decision making in core strategic processes</li><li>Ensure compliance with data security and privacy standards, in close collaboration with enterprise data security standards and tooling.</li></ul></li></ul><ul><li>Mentorship and Continuous Improvement:<ul><li>Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior data engineers, fostering a collaborative environment that bridges the gap between business requirements and technical execution.</li><li>Stay updated with emerging data technologies and methodologies, integrating innovative practices into the company’s AA initiatives within EPD.</li></ul></li></ul>Preferred Qualifications:<ul><li>Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in relevant field (computer science, electrical engineering etc..)</li></ul><ul><li>5 – 8 years of relevant working experience in data engineering within corporate environments. Exposure to regulated industries such as pharmaceuticals is a plus</li><li>Strong Python, and SQL skills. Java or Scala a plus</li><li>Strong experience with technologies including AWS (EMR, Glue, Athena, RDS, Step Functions, S3), Spark, Hadoop, Airflow, dbt, Terraform, Docker, Git, databases(both SQL and NoSQL)</li><li>Proven experience in designing enterprise ETL platforms with emphasis on observability</li><li>Demonstrated ability to guide junior developers and 3rd party contractors</li><li>Proven communication skills.
