Your role and responsibilities

Working as a R&D Project Manager, you will be a key member of the ABB Excitation R&D team, driving increased customer value and profitable business growth through developing our future competitive product portfolio offering, and managing it through its life cycle phases according to market needs, division strategy and business targets. In this role you will be leading the end- to-end execution of strategic R&D projects. You will manage the work of multiple cross-functional project teams and you partner with steering groups, product management and other internal and external stakeholders to ensure strategy and execution alignment and to optimize value delivery. The work model for the role is: #Li-Hybrid This role is contributing to the Process Automation Energy Industries division in Switzerland. You will be mainly accountable for:• End-to-end planning, coordinating, executing, and delivering assigned R&D projects. In addition to that monitoring and controlling progress, cost/financials, and quality.• Motivating and overseeing internal and external resources to achieve all set targets. Providing coaching and mentorship in effective project execution and development practices. Ensuring the team comprehends the customer value in projects, acting to guarantee customer satisfaction, and managing stakeholder expectations.• Effectively engaging and communicating appropriate information to stakeholders in a timely manner to achieve desired buy-in, understanding and support. • Ensuring efficient use of available resources and proactively addressing critical resource bottlenecks and project constraints. Guaranteeing projects adhere to sound methodologies and execution practices, aligned with the chosen development model (e.g., predictive/waterfall, iterative/agile, hybrid) and compliant with applicable ABB internal directives, procedures, and external standards influencing activities and targets.

Qualifications for the role

• University degree in engineering or related fields.
• Five years plus of experience in project management or R&D project management.
• Certified Project Management Qualification and experience in agile project management methodology (waterfall, agile, hybrid).
• A collaborative, solution-focused approach, with strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Experience and skills in leading cross-functional teams without direct authority.
• Enthusiasm and interest to understand evolving markets, emerging technologies, and customer needs in a broader context.
• Proficient in business English, German is a plus.
