The Imaging Core Facility (IMCF) of the Biozentrum of the University of Basel is offering a position to an early-career scientist to enter the field of modern high-end light microscopy.

Your position

The candidate will support the IMCF by maintaining various state-of-the-art wide-field, confocal, spinning disk, light sheet (live cell and cleared samples), multiplexed (seqFISH), spatial transcriptomics and super-resolution (SIM, STORM/PALM) microscopes; will contribute mainly to microscope user training and to a lesser extent to image analysis; and will participate in the teaching program of the IMCF. Your profile

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with a technical or research background who combines solid technical expertise with strong communication skills. Suitable candidates are expected to have a university degree in life sciences or physics (Masters or PhD) and practical experience in at least two or more of the following areas: Optics, light microscopy techniques (widefield and/or confocal), live cell imaging. A good knowledge of image processing is a plus.
The candidate should be rigorous, reliable, well organized and have the ambition to work in a service-oriented context. Good communication skills in English and the ability to work as a team player in a multidisciplinary environment are required.

The position provides an ideal environment into a microscopy facility career. It is initially limited to two years, but can be extended up to six years. The preferred start date is 1 September 2024, but can be negotiated.
