Internal Controls Senior People Manager

Zurich is currently looking for an Internal Controls Senior People Manager to work out of our North American Headquarters in Schaumburg, Illinois.

Primary responsibilities include supporting management to ensure internal controls are in place and operating effectively in accordance with the Group Internal Control Integrated Framework (ICIF), with the main area of focus being financial controls. Work with an experienced team to bring innovative solutions to management to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the control environment. Support the business in understanding the root cause of errors identified and help develop remediation plans. This role includes people manager responsibilities for a team of Internal Controls seniors and technical managers.

Key Accountabilities Include:

Ability to analyze processes to identify risks and control weaknesses

Ability to design and implement appropriate controls to strengthen the control environment and mitigate company risks

Recognize the impact of major external or internal changes to the control environment

Participate in cross functional groups to implement or enhance controls based on organizational transformations

Bring a systematic and disciplined approach to maintain the control environment

Ability to document processes from start to finish through the collaboration with subject matter experts

Ability to design and execute the testing of internal controls and facilitate the related remediation for any control deficiencies identified

Develop presentations tailored to audiences at various levels and business functions to communicate internal control findings

Ability to promote and educate cross functional partners on the importance of internal controls

Support the business and Internal Controls team in automating controls and testing where appropriate

Build relationships within the business to stay current on focus areas and trends and consider where additional support may be required

Support the business as ICIF is rolled out and moves to business as usual

Identify opportunities to improve customer facing reporting and coordination and bring them to action

Manage and coach a team of professional and/or managerial employees.

Recruit and select employees to join team and determine when team members should be retained.

Establish objectives and set priorities for direct reports. Assess performance of direct reports at mid-year and year-end and implement development plans and incorporate quality reviews on the performance assessments written by direct report managers.

Develop a people management strategy to optimize staff development and retention, and manage performance of team members, including ensuring team members comply with company policies and expectations and take appropriate action.

Provide regular, actionable coaching and feedback to employees to review progress, recognize accomplishments, support development and/or improve performance.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and 7 or more years of experience in the Accounting or Finance area OR

High School Diploma or Equivalent and 9 or more years of experience in the Accounting or Finance area OR

Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 7 or more years of experience in the Accounting or Finance area AND

Knowledge and experience using accounting principles

General ledger and transactional experience

Experience with General Ledger, software, financial reporting systems, Business Objects and financial query tools.

People management experience

Preferred Qualifications:

MBA or other graduate degree

Insurance industry experience

Public accounting or Internal Audit experience

Project management experience

Advanced Microsoft Office experience

Strong written and verbal communication skills

CPA, CISA or other similar designation
