The Department of Performing Arts and Film at Zurich University of the Arts enables an exciting exchange between teaching and research through its diversity. The training in Production Design is an integral part of the collaborative film education. The training at ZHdK is characterized by consistently reflecting role distribution, team structures, and production realities of the film industry in many courses.
In the Film program, we are looking for a candidate due to retirement as of August 1, 2027:
Artistic Professorship Production Design 50% m/f/d
- Design and implementation of teaching offers and practical projects in the BA Major Production Design, in close cooperation with the BA Major Film.
- Independent teaching and mentoring tasks within independent and joint teaching formats.
- Main responsibility for supervising bachelor theses (Worldbuilding) and supporting student participation in final films of BA and MA Film students.
- Collaboration with external production companies and professionals to realize practice-oriented film projects.
- Ongoing involvement in the curricular, organizational, and content development of the BA Film (curriculum development, committees, events, representation).
- Continuous exchange with actors and institutions in the professional field as well as contribution to the further development of Production Design as a craft in the international film context.
More than five years of professional and practical experience as a filmmaker. You have a recognized standing and present a current work at an international level. We expect several years of teaching experience in the artistic field at university level as well as a well-developed professional practice network. A master’s degree or equivalent training is required. Very good language skills in German and English are also required. A reliable professional network within the Swiss film industry is explicitly required to facilitate students’ access to relevant partners, productions, and career entry opportunities.
Availability on an hourly basis from autumn 2026 would be desirable to ensure the planning of a curriculum closely linked to the Bachelor Major Film for the autumn semester 2027, the selection of Production Design students for the new cohort, and appropriate onboarding.
