The Department of Women, Children and Adolescents is tasked with providing quality care tailored to the needs of women at every stage of their lives and addressing the health issues faced by newborns, children, and adolescents from birth up to 16 years old. It works on developing cutting-edge services and centres of expertise in specialised fields.

The Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Service (SPEA) manages inpatient and outpatient care for children and adolescents suffering from mental disorders. The teams work in multidisciplinary collaboration within a university environment offering numerous opportunities for undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing education.

The House of Childhood and Adolescence, which brings together all SPEA activities, supports the current public health policy of the "first 1000 days" within the Early Childhood Guidance unit. This unit includes various intervention methods for families and their children from birth to 4 years: liaison activities, outpatient activities, and intensive outpatient activities.

This team develops collaboration with structures of the official youth foundation that care for parents and their babies in situations of high vulnerability. This collaboration ensures continuity and coherence in the journey of these families when they leave HUG for these structures.

Job Description

Within the OBB House and as part of a multidisciplinary and multi-weekly care approach, you autonomously provide psychomotor care (assessment, individual and/or group sessions with body mediation) for children aged 0 to 2 years and their parents.

You support and assist parenting, the child’s psychomotor development, and the parent-child relationship.

You participate in summary meetings, the development of therapeutic projects, and orientation planning.

Within the OBB House, a structure attached to the Office of Childhood and Youth, primarily serving highly vulnerable families, you have the opportunity to offer support in developing parent-child bonds for families at high psychosocial risk.

You conduct psychomotor assessments and then parent-baby support in close collaboration with the OBB House team (educational team of the FOJ) and the SPEA/HUG team (child psychologist, child psychiatrist from the Early Childhood Guidance unit, paediatrician, adult psychiatrist, and social worker).

Furthermore, you support and assess the establishment of parent-baby/child bonds during daily care (bathing, changing, feeding, sleeping, interactions/play…) and the baby/child’s skills as well as their psychomotor development by assisting parents in reading, decoding, and responding to their signals.

You support and assist the parent according to their mental state (postpartum depression, personality disorder, uncompensated psychiatric disorder…).

Additionally, you support and assess parenting skills.

You may participate in joint interviews with the child psychiatrist or psychologist.

Participation is also required in team meetings, supervisions, and psychosocial networks around the family.

Finally, administratively, you are responsible for follow-up notes on daily observations of the child and parent-baby relationship for each family. You participate in the preparation and writing of reports as well as billing.

Qualifications

You hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from HES-SO in psychomotricity or have an equivalent qualification.

You possess the cantonal practice licence or are able to obtain it before starting the position.

Experience in a hospital or institutional setting with children and practice in co-therapy within a multidisciplinary team are desirable.

Experience or training with young children is an asset.

You are comfortable with the sensory-motor model and have awareness and/or training in sensory-motor assessment, group therapies, and parental support.

You have an interest in working within a multidisciplinary team (nursing staff, nursing assistants, child psychiatrists, psychologists, speech therapists, social workers, educators) and in partnership with the psychosocial network (HUG team, FOJ placement homes, SPMI…).

You have excellent organisational skills, priority management, autonomy, stress resistance, and conflict management abilities.

You possess excellent interpersonal, communication, listening, and empathy skills to support parents and their baby/child and co-construct the care plan.

You have excellent observation skills, openness to change, and self-reflection.

You are available and have great adaptability and creativity.

You participate in training or conferences provided by the service.
