About the job
Your Tasks
We are looking for a personality with an independent design practice as well as teaching experience in the field of Visual Communication / Graphic Design. You naturally and expertly combine analogue and digital media and methods, are familiar with current technological developments, and develop innovative design solutions with social relevance. You have sound knowledge of typography, layout, and visual design, and experience in developing digital formats such as websites, animated visuals, infographics, or interactive applications. The creative and critical use of AI-supported tools and methods is a fixed part of your practice. You possess conceptual thinking, strategic methodological competence, and a strong interest in interdisciplinary issues. You are visible and actively networked in the design scene.
As a lecturer
- Development and implementation of teaching formats to convey conceptual, technical, and methodological fundamentals of Visual Communication and Graphic Design (including co-teaching).
- Didactically sound support of individual work processes, from research through concept development to presentation.
- Support of students in developing a design position and language.
- Teaching design fundamentals in typography, colour, and layout.
- Teaching conceptual and technical skills for designing digital applications such as websites, animated graphics, and other time-based or interactive digital formats.
- Introduction to AI-supported design, visualisation, and image generation processes.
As module coordinator
- Overall responsibility for the content, organisational, and personnel planning, implementation, and further development of the module according to specifications.
- Lateral leadership of lecturers and teaching staff involved in the module; in particular ensuring communication, promoting collaboration, and coordinating work assignments. Recruitment of teaching staff in consultation with the preparatory course management.
- Planning and allocation of resources and materials within the module.
- Ensuring the didactic quality and currency of the teaching.
- Quality assurance and qualitative further development of the module, including feedback to lecturers.
- Participation in the professional, organisational, and personnel development of the preparatory design course.
- Representation of the field of Visual Communication in the core team and within the Department of Design Film Art.
- Active participation in exchange, planning, evaluation, and development bodies and involvement in strategic issues.
Your Profile
- You have a completed university degree (Master’s or Diploma) in Visual Communication / Graphic Design.
- You have an independent design practice with several years of professional experience at the interface of concept, design, and technology.
- You have teaching experience at a university or a preparatory design course. A certificate in higher education didactics can be obtained as part of the employment.
- You have sound knowledge of typography, layout, and visual communication.
- You are experienced in the conception and design of digital applications such as websites, animations, and information design and work confidently with AI-supported tools (Midjourney, Weavy, etc.).
- You are proficient in handling relevant design and drafting software (Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and After Effects), have knowledge of UX/UI design, and experience with Figma.
- You know the Swiss design scene, are visible in it, and excellently networked.
- You are a communicative and reliable personality with pronounced cooperation and social skills.
- You think and work interdisciplinarily and enjoy team-oriented collaboration.
- You have organisational skills and experience in independently planning and implementing projects and teaching units.
- Very good German language skills, spoken and written.
